Swimarathon success

We had a fantastic time last Friday at the Swimarathon with 50 plus children swimming their best to raise money for the Rotary Club charities.

Football Festival

Team Stokenham came 1st & 2nd at the South Hams Football Festival at KCC.  Our teams did exceptionally well, performing with commitment, skill and great sportsmanship.  Both teams met in the final and could not be separated in normal time.  The penalty shoot-out was won on the final kick by Team A who received gold medals.  Congratulations to all who played – you made the school and your parents very proud!

Thank You!

A very generous thank you to our PTFA and all our parents, friends and families who have supported the school with the various events over the last year. We are very pleased and proud to announce that we have raised over £10,635 to go towards the Key Stage 1 playground equipment. The PTFA and staff cannot thank you enough for all your support.

Three days of fun and laughter at Heatree!

What more could we ask for? Raft Building; stream scrambling; glorious moorland walks in the sunshine. Donning harnesses and helmets; climbing walls and tors; learning the skills of archery and fencing; our Year 5 children had a truly fabulous residential at Heatree.

Rounders Festival

Well done to our Rounders team who had a lovely afternoon yesterday taking part in KCC Rounders Festival. Numerous rounders were scored; some excellent batting and bowling by team members; great sportsmanship by all and despite the weather they thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon. Well done Team Stokenham!

Music Showcase Assembly

Well done to all our pupils who performed in Mrs Chapman’s music showcase assembly this morning. We had a trio of guitar players playing “Bond”, pianists enchanting us with Latin dance, Street Beat and a brass fanfare. The confidence shown by our twelve performers was delightful. There is no need to travel to the Albert Hall when we can perform our own musical Proms at Stokenham.

Where does all the water end up?

Our Year 5 class have been exploring Brooking Wood, they had great fun following the stream from the school spring down to Brooking Wood where they took samples of water to check its quality. They observed insects under microscopes once back in the classroom and found some rather interesting bugs!

Tune in to Spotlight next Thursday to hopefully see our KS2 children on television!

This morning our children in Year 3 to 6 listened with great interest to local residents talk about the Hallsands Tragedy which occurred 100 years ago next week. They were totally captivated to hear how the village was washed away yet no one lost their lives. Numerous photographs taken throughout the last century were shown to the children and they listened to descendants of people who were involved in the tragedy at Hallsands. Our gratitude is extended to the Lynn and Trout families as well as other members of the local community, for sharing their village and family history with us.

30 second Sports Council Challenge

To raise the profile of sport and physical activity even higher at our school, the  Sports Council will be running a weekly challenge. Every Tuesday break time they will organise a ’30 Second Sports Council Challenge’ where KS2 children can participate and compete in a variety of exercises set by the Sports Council.  The winning girl and boy from each year group (3 – 6) will receive a certificate in Celebration Assembly and have their name announced in the newsletter.

This terms topic

Our topic this term is ‘Patterns’. We have been enjoying looking at the stories of Elmer the Elephant. As a treat we are going to have an Elmer dress up day! Please come to school dressed in as many different colours as you can, just like Elmer (this will therefore be a non-school uniform day for Foundation Stage). We are also going to make rainbow cupcakes; it’s going to be great.
