School Meals

New standards for school meals mean they have never before been so nutritious and varied. We hope the information below will highlight why school meals are a good value, nutritious option at lunchtime and give you an insight to the good work that is being achieved by our School Kitchen.

How to choose a school meal?
There is one choice of main meal each day; however, children can choose between either a pudding or fruit.

Free School Meals
This applies to all pupils regardless of which year they are in.  If you are receiving Income Support or Income Based Jobseekers Allowance your child may be entitled to Free School Meals.

Cost of a school meal and how to pay
Children in Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 qualify for a Universal Free School Meal (This Government run scheme is different to Free School Meals)

For children in Years 3 – 6 a school meal costs £2.30 per day or £11.50 per full week.  You can pay by cash or cheque or on-line.  Cheques should be made payable to DCC.

All school meals should be paid for in advance

School Milk for All Pupils
We are able to supply cartons of milk on a daily basis to all children. It is free to all children under the age of 5 and subsidised for children age 5 and above at approximately £15 per term.  If you would like your child to receive milk at school during the day please register at the following website http://www.coolmilk.com

Milk for Free School Meal Children
Children entitled to statutory Free School Meals are eligible to receive free milk on a daily basis.  If you would like your child to receive free milk please let your School Administrator know.

Why Choose School Meals?
Lunch time is an important part of a child’s school day, giving pupils a break with friends and the chance to re-charge their batteries ready for the afternoon’s activities.

School meals can be a fantastic way to encourage children to try new things – sitting with their friends and seeing what they eat is often all the encouragement they need.

We think that there are many good reasons why choosing a school meal is the best lunchtime option for children.
