Culture Champion Day

Children in Years 3 to Year 6 were visited by Mona, an Islamic Cultural Champion.

She shared with the children the reasons behind Islamic dress and way of life. The children learnt all about the festival of Ramadan and why Muslims ‘fast’. Mona read from the Qu’ran in Arabic and much to the excitement of the children, wrote their names in Arabic! It was great for the children to be able to learn first-hand and ask questions to somebody from another culture.

Scrumptious Biscuit Day

The School Council have been busy this week delivering an assembly about Young Carers Awareness Day and informing the whole school about our Charity ‘Action for Children’. All children helped to bake biscuits for the event, which were enjoyed at break time today.  Thank you to those who donated to this event successfully planned by our School Councillors.

Indoor Athletics

Some of our Year 6 children attended the federation schools Indoor Athletics competition at Loddiswell School on Monday. The athletes competed in a range of exciting challenges: chest push, speed bounce, standing long jumps, agility tests and hurdles. Following the field events were the relays that threw up multiple photo finishes that thrilled the on looking crowd. Stokenham came 2nd out of five schools. A massive thank you to all the adults who transported and supported and a big well done to all the children that took part.

Federation Cross Country

Congratulations to some of our KS2 children who took part in the Federation Cross Country at Malborough this week. The varying tactics of strong starts, speedy middle sections and sprint finishes, made for enthralling viewing for the spectators with all the races being eagerly contested. As well as the amazing athletic performances on display, it was also great to see so much encouragement and cheering from all the children. Well done to all the runners and a massive thank you to all the adults who transported and supported.

We are delighted to announce that Stokenham School, have achieved the School Games Gold Level Mark Award for the 2018/19 academic year. The School Games Mark is a Government led award scheme launched in 2012; facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust, to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Rotary Swimarathon Presentation

Congratulations to our swimmers who took part in the Annual Rotary Club of Kingsbridge  Swimarathon event last October. Mr Robin Rose-Price and Mrs Amanda Bloomer presented our swimmers this morning in assembly with a cheque for £645 which is 50% of what we actually raised. This is a huge achievement and we look forward to this year’s Swimarathon in October.

World Book Day – Dressing up Day

Willy Wonka; Where’s Wally; Mary Poppins and Tintin. A huge array of different characters were in school for our World Book Day. The children had such fun dressing up and talking about their favourite characters in class.

Mental Health Awareness Day

Four of our pupils represented Stokenham at the Mental Health Ambassadors day at Modbury. They, along with pupils from the other Federation Schools, were involved in various workshops to keep ourselves mentally healthy.

Orienteering Thursdays

It not quite ‘find the needle in a haystack’ but more ‘hunt for the lost treasure in a shape of a tin.’ Maps and compasses at the ready, pacing out their 100 metres, knowing North from South, East from West, our children have taken to the challenge of orienteering with great resilience, teamwork and determination.

Heatree residential

Three Days of Laughing, walking, scrambling and making friends. What more could we ask for? Raft building, stream scrambling, glorious moorland walks in the sunshine; donning harnesses and helmets, climbing walls and tors, learning the skills of archery and fencing. Our Year 5 children had a truly fabulous residential at Heatree.
